Our R&M Latin Dance Trip to Italy: Salsa, Bachata, Friendship & La Dolce Vita 🇮🇹

Some experiences stay with you long after the suitcases are unpacked, the photos are posted and everyday life begins again. Our R&M Latin Dance trip to Italy was one of those experiences.

R&M goes to Italy - dance trip 2026 - young community of beginners for salsa and bachata Sydney

For us, it was never just about travelling to a beautiful country. It was about bringing our students together, sharing our love of Salsa and Bachata, creating unforgettable memories and experiencing something truly special as a community, and looking back, we can honestly say that Italy gave us so much more than we could have imagined. ❤️

More Than a Holiday: A Dance Trip and a Journey Together

One of the things we love most about teaching dance is watching what happens when people step outside their comfort zones.

Many of our students first walk into R&M as complete beginners. They might feel nervous about dancing with someone new, worry about getting the steps wrong or wonder whether they will ever feel confident on a dance floor.

Then, week after week, something changes. They start recognising the music, connecting with their dance partners, making friends and discovering a confidence they might not have known they had.

Our Italy trip was a beautiful opportunity to see that journey continue beyond the studio.

We explored new places, shared meals, laughed until our cheeks hurt and, of course, danced! We experienced the excitement of discovering somewhere new together, with Salsa and Bachata bringing us back to what first connected us all.

There is something wonderful about seeing familiar faces in a completely different setting. Suddenly, your usual dance partners become your travel companions, your classmates become your adventure buddies, and the friendships you have built in class become memories you will carry for years.

R&M Italy Dance Trip: Watching Our Students Grow

If there was one thing that made us especially proud during this trip, it was watching our students dance. Social dancing is such an important part of learning Salsa and Bachata. It is where the steps you practise in class start to feel natural, where you learn to adapt to different partners and musical styles, and where confidence really begins to grow.

Taking those skills out into the world is an entirely different experience.

R&M Italy Dance Trip - Salsa and Bachata from Sydney
3am at a dance night in Italy, such a beautiful night!

We were so proud of the fact that our R&M students could blend so easily into the dancers of the Italian dance floor. Generally the level of Salsa and Bachata dancers in Europe is very high, so watching our students get out on the dance floor in Italy, enjoy the music, connect with their partners and embrace the moment was incredibly rewarding. They definitely could keep up with the local talent!!

We saw people becoming more confident, applying what they had learnt and enjoying their dancing in new ways.

And that is what dance is all about for us. It is not about being perfect - It's about progress, connection, expression and having the courage to get out there and enjoy yourself.

Every dance is an opportunity to learn something new. Dancing with new dancers always creates improvement and you could see when our students danced with the locals they were in their element! One big reminder of why we love what we do. We could not have been prouder! 💃🕺

Sharing Mariano's Hometown: A Very Personal Experience

For Mariano, this trip had an extra-special meaning. Italy is not simply a beautiful destination on a map to us. It is home, memories, family history and a part of his life that helped shape the person he is today. Being able to share his hometown with our students was something truly personal. Instead of simply showing everyone the sights, we could introduce them to a little piece of Mariano's world.

There is a different feeling when you explore a place through the eyes of someone who grew up there. The streets, the atmosphere, the local food and the everyday moments become part of a much bigger story. Sharing that experience with our R&M family made it even more meaningful. We were not just showing our students Italy. We were sharing a piece of ourselves, and having the opportunity to bring together our life in Sydney, our love of dance and Mariano's Italian roots made this trip particularly close to our hearts. 🇮🇹❤️

The Italian Lifestyle: Good Food, Laughter & Beautiful Moments

Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without enjoying the Italian lifestyle!

Between dancing and exploring, there were delicious meals, beautiful scenery, conversations around the table and plenty of opportunities to slow down and appreciate where we were.

Italy has a special way of reminding you to enjoy the little things: good food, good company, sunshine, a beautiful view and nowhere in particular you need to rush off to.

Some of our favourite memories were not necessarily the big moments. They were the spontaneous laughs, the conversations, the shared meals and the little adventures that happened along the way. Those are the moments that make a trip feel personal, and when you experience them with a group of people who share your love of music, dancing and adventure, everything becomes even more special!

We went to Italy, but the people we shared it with made the experience what it was.

From Dance Classes to a Dance Family

One of the most rewarding things about running R&M Latin Dance is seeing the friendships that develop through our classes.

People join us for all sorts of reasons. Some want to learn Salsa or Bachata. Others want to meet new people, become more confident, find a new hobby or add something exciting to their week. Whatever brings someone through our doors, we love seeing how dance can bring people together. Over time, the weekly classes become more than just an hour of learning steps. There are social nights, parties, celebrations, shared achievements and friendships that continue outside the studio.

Trips like this bring all of those connections to life in a different way. We travelled together, danced together, explored together and created memories that belong to all of us. We got to know one another beyond our usual classes and share an experience that will always be part of our R&M story. That is something we never take for granted.

To everyone who joined us in Italy, thank you for your energy, your enthusiasm, your willingness to embrace every adventure and for making this trip so special.

We feel incredibly lucky to share these experiences with you. ❤️

Why We Believe Dance Is About So Much More Than Steps

You do not need to be an experienced dancer to enjoy a trip like this. You do not need to know every move, have years of experience or feel completely confident before you begin.

Every dancer starts somewhere.

The beautiful thing about learning Salsa and Bachata is that the journey can take you far beyond the dance floor. You can discover new music, meet people you might never otherwise have met, develop new skills and find yourself saying yes to experiences you would not have imagined before. For some people, that might mean feeling confident enough to attend their first social dance. For others, it might mean performing in a show, travelling overseas with their dance friends or dancing in Italy for the first time.

There is no single path. There is just the joy of learning, growing and seeing where the journey takes you.

Our Italy trip was a wonderful reminder of that. We watched our students develop as dancers, share their passion and enjoy the experience of dancing in a new environment. But just as importantly, we watched friendships grow and people make memories that will stay with them long after the music stops.

That is the magic we hope everyone can experience through dance.

Grazie, Italy. And Grazie to Our R&M Family!

As we look back on our time in Italy, we feel nothing but gratitude.

Grateful for the opportunity to share Mariano's hometown. Grateful for the dancing, the adventures, the delicious food and the laughter. Grateful for the progress we saw in our students. And, above all, grateful for the people who made the journey so memorable.

This trip was another chapter in our R&M story, and we will always look back on it with enormous affection.

To our students who travelled with us: thank you for being part of it. You helped turn a trip to Italy into something much more meaningful, and we hope you will treasure those memories as much as we do.

And to everyone who has ever wondered what it is like to be part of the R&M Latin Dance community, we hope these photos and videos give you a little glimpse of what can happen when dance becomes part of your life.

You might come to learn Salsa or Bachata. You might stay for the friendships, the social nights, the confidence, the adventures and the experiences you never expected.

And who knows? Maybe one day you will be joining us on a dance adventure of your own!

From Sydney to Italy, one dance at a time. 🇮🇹💃❤️

With love,

Rhi & Mariano - R&M Latin Dance
